Frequently Asked Questions

How much will i save with a 1Kw system?
This depends upon a few factors, such as geographical location, shadow, angle of array panel and inverter, cable efficiencies etc. However, assuming you are based in Toowoomba, with a clear, north facing array, you will produce approximately 5~5.5Kw of power on average over the year. Therefore your saving would be calculated as:
                                                                                       365days x 5Kw x 0.18c (cost per Kw of power in QLD) = $328
This is also assumimg that you do not sell any power back to the grid. Most people who aren't at home durring the day will.

What is the difference between a solar power system and a solar hot water system?
A solar power system uses silicon cells and light to produce electricity. A traditional solar hot water system uses black pipes and the suns heat to heat wter. Mind you the new evacuated tube technology also uses light.

How long has PV been around?
Modern solar panels were developed durring the 1950's. In fact the panels are warrented for at least 20 years.

What is a grid connected solar power system?
When the solar panels on your roof are connected to your existing commercial electricity supply, the system is said to be a grid connected. If you are not connected to the grid, it is known as a stand alone system.

What size solar power system should i buy?
The bigger the better. However, we are constrained by normally 3 limiting factors, roof size, shadow and budget. A 3Kw system will likely power most house types in Australia.

What is a feed in a tariff?
This is the price the government says must be paid for the power produced by your solar panels. currently you are paid 0.44c per kilowatt in Queensland.

Do i get a different meter?
Your electricity supplier will change your meter. We facilitate this by providing you with the paper work. At this stage this comes at no charge to you, the owner. This new meter will record what you use and feed back to the grid.

Will my grid connected system provide power in the event of a blackout?
No. For safety reasons your solar PV system will automatically and immediately turn off. This is because we don't want anybody who is working to fix the problem getting electrocuted by the system, will still be providing power to the grid. The inverter will automatically shut down in such an event.
